Articulation

Through targeted exercises, techniques, and strategies, articulation therapy focuses on correcting specific speech sound errors, such as substitutions, omissions, distortions, or additions. The goal of articulation therapy is to enhance clarity and precision in speech production, enabling individuals to communicate effectively and confidently in various social and academic settings.

Pragmatic Language/

Social Communication

Focuses on improving individuals' social communication skills and pragmatic language abilities. This therapy targets various aspects of social interaction, such as understanding social cues, taking turns in conversation, maintaining appropriate eye contact, using conversational repair strategies, and interpreting nonverbal communication. Through structured activities, role-playing, and real-life simulations, individuals learn to navigate social situations effectively, build relationships, and engage in meaningful interactions with others.

AAC

AAC, or Augmentative and Alternative Communication, refers to methods of communication used to assist individuals who have difficulties with speech or language.

AAC includes a range of tools [i.e. gestures, sign language, facial expressions, picture boards, communication books, speech-generating devices (SGDs)] and strategies that help people express themselves, whether due to congenital disabilities like cerebral palsy, autism, or acquired conditions such as stroke or

traumatic brain injury.

Receptive & Expressive Language

Expressive and receptive language therapy are specialized interventions aimed at addressing different aspects of communication difficulties. Expressive language therapy focuses on helping individuals improve their ability to express themselves effectively through spoken or written language. This may involve targeting vocabulary development, sentence structure, grammar, and storytelling skills. Receptive language therapy, on the other hand, aims to enhance an individual's understanding and comprehension of spoken or written language. Therapists work on improving skills such as following directions, understanding concepts, interpreting figurative language, and making inferences.

Literacy and Writing

Literacy is the fundamental ability to read and write proficiently, enabling individuals to understand, interpret, and communicate through written language. It encompasses a range of skills, including decoding written text, comprehending its meaning, and expressing oneself through writing. Literacy is not only essential for academic success but also plays a crucial role in everyday life, from understanding instructions and navigating information to participating fully in society.

Social Skills Groups

Social skills groups are structured programs designed to help individuals, particularly children and adolescents, develop and improve their social interactions. These groups typically focus on teaching essential social behaviors such as communication, cooperation, conflict resolution, empathy, and understanding social cues.

Led by a speech-language pathologist, social skills groups provide a supportive environment where participants can practice these skills through role-playing, games, and group discussions. These groups are particularly beneficial for individuals with social challenges, such as those with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), or social anxiety, helping them build confidence and form

meaningful relationships.

Fluency/Stuttering

Fluency-enhancing strategies and stuttering therapy are interventions designed to help individuals manage and reduce stuttering behaviors. These strategies may include techniques such as slow and smooth speech, easy onset of sounds, gentle airflow, and prolongation of sounds to promote fluent speech production. Additionally, stuttering therapy may involve cognitive-behavioral approaches to address negative emotions and attitudes associated with stuttering, as well as desensitization techniques to reduce anxiety.

Screenings & Evaluations

A speech and/or language screening is a brief, preliminary assessment used to identify individuals who may require further evaluation for communication disorders. It typically involves a quick check of key communication skills to determine if there are any concerns that warrant a more comprehensive evaluation. Whereas, a speech and/or language evaluation is a thorough and in-depth assessment conducted by a certified speech-language pathologist to diagnose specific communication difficulties and develop an individualized treatment plan.

Academic Tutoring

Academic tutoring is a personalized educational service designed to support students in improving their understanding and performance in specific subjects. Tutors work one-on-one or in small groups, providing targeted instruction that aligns with the student’s learning style and academic needs. The goal of tutoring is not only to help students master content but also to build their confidence, develop effective study habits, and enhance problem-solving skills. Whether for remedial support or enrichment, academic tutoring can play a crucial role in helping students achieve their educational goals.

Teletherapy

Speech and language teletherapy services provide remote, online therapy sessions to help individuals improve their communication skills. Delivered via secure video conferencing platforms, these services offer the same benefits as in-person speech therapy, including the assessment and treatment of speech disorders, language delays, articulation issues, and social communication challenges.

Teletherapy allows clients to receive personalized speech and language interventions from the comfort of their own homes, making therapy more accessible and flexible. It is particularly beneficial for individuals in remote areas or those with busy schedules, ensuring they can still receive the support they need to develop effective communication skills.

Free Screenings in School

Free speech and language development screenings in preschools, daycares, or private schools are brief assessments offered at no cost to identify potential speech and language difficulties in children. These screenings are conducted by a speech-language pathologist and evaluate key areas such as articulation, receptive language, expressive language, and social communication.

The goal is to catch any early signs of speech or language delays that might impact a child's academic performance or social interactions. By offering these screenings within the school setting, parents and educators can quickly access valuable insights into a child’s communication development, leading to timely early interventions if needed.
